From the
main Paignton to Brixham road, by Churston Common there is a turning for
Broadsands. There is a group of shops here including an off-licence,
newsagent and excellent fish and chips. The long road sweeps downhill,
under the steam railway viaduct to a large car park.
It
is well worth a visit for beach lovers and walkers. Broadsands beach is a
wide sweeping bay with golden sand. It is ideal for children as it has
shallow water safe for swimming in. There are two cafes and a shop with
water sports activities from the beach. The steam train can be seen from
here and often gives a friendly toot as it passes.
There
is a continuation of the coastal walk, across fields with a pitch and putt
course, to Elbury Cove, a pebbly beach, which has an old ruined cottage at
the sea’s edge. There is a ski lane, which is very popular with water
sport enthusiasts. The coast path continues through woodland to Brixham.
